pisces new moon 2021

Early Saturday morning, at 2:21AM PT, the moon will empty in the sign of watery Pisces. In many parts of the northern hemisphere, the snow is melting and the first buds of spring are sprouting in the fertile soil. Just one week before the vernal equinox, the Pisces new moon marks a time of deep reflection and renewal. This new lunar cycle has much to offer us, and I'm looking forward to taking a dip in these magical waters.

The new moon occurs at 23 degrees Pisces with dreamy Neptune and an exalted loving Venus nearby. In addition to this magical mix of fantasy, I see zero harsh aspects to this lunation. What a welcome astrological treat! If this transit were a dessert in fact, it would be decorated with unicorns, rainbows and delivered by the faeries. More than likely, you will not be feeling super productive this weekend. Don't expect to get a lot done. This new moon beckons us to sit back, slow down, and chill out for a bit. In this Neptunian landscape, there is no rushing ahead. We are either riding the wave or swimming against the current.

Neptune and Venus are playing a big role over the next couple weeks. As we plant the seeds of the Pisces moon, we are dismantling barriers and seeking connections. We may feel more compassion for others and a sense of oneness with the world at large. Our spiritual impulses may draw us to connect more deeply with the divine. Our hearts are able to open more broadly and recognize the divine beauty in our surroundings. The new moon is ruled by buoyant Jupiter, so we have a better ability to see the big picture and receive its blessings.

Venus is exalted in Pisces because of her ability empathize and have sincere compassion in this sign. In a tarot reading I did for this lunation, I could see this will be a time of letting go of possessiveness and a hoarding attitude. We are entering a period where (I hope) it will be easier to share and be generous with others. As the ice of winter melts, our hearts are softening and seeking true connections. Also, as the severity of the pandemic lessens, we are feeling safer and realigning with joyous human bonding.

The only potential challenge I'm seeing with this new moon would be falling too far into the Neptune abyss. We are in the realm of fantasy and imagination during this cycle, so we may not be thinking practically or have a realistic perspective. As long as we don't become attached to 'ideals', however, I think we will be fine! Perhaps the best way to approach this new moon, is to not declare grandiose far off plans for the future. Instead, find a quiet place alone and feel the bliss of the present moment. Over the weekend, soak up the magic of the new moon and let it radiate outward over the coming weeks.

Another message that came up in the tarot reading was the importance of having a structured ritual or spiritual practice. This 'structured practice' may also include a self care routine of some kind. What might this look like? I would suggest working with a wise and experienced teacher or counselor who can offer some kind of structured support system. The Neptune and Sun conjunction can represent a wise teacher or guru entering your life. Perhaps you already have the tools, however, and this new moon can inspire you to reconnect with a personal practice.

As we move into fiery Aries season, our lives will be taking on a quicker pace. I see lots of new activity on the horizon! I believe the Pisces new moon is a welcome space to allow relaxed rejuvenation before our lives heat up once again. This is also a perfect time to tap into your intuition. So take some time this Friday and Saturday to find the quiet and your inner bliss.

Happy new moon.
